Using SUNPOW metal detectors
How do I set up a SUNPOW detector out of the box?
5 steps and about 5 minutes on any SUNPOW detector.
- Join the stem sections and lock the cam or twist locks.
- Set the armrest so the coil hovers just above the ground with your arm relaxed.
- Fit the batteries or charge over Type-C on rechargeable models.
- Start in All Metal, then switch to DISC or Notch once you know what trash your site gives up.
- Sweep slowly, overlapping each pass by half a coil.
Can I take a SUNPOW metal detector into the sea?
Only the coil. Our search coils are sealed to IP68, so you can sweep wet sand, the surf line, creeks and tide pools. The control box is not waterproof on any SUNPOW detector, so keep it above the water and dry it after a beach day.
What coil size should a beginner choose?
Start with an 8 in coil if you will hunt parks and yards, because it is light and separates targets in trashy ground. Move to the 12 in coils for open beaches and fields, where covering more ground per sweep matters more than weight.
